I think due summer storms the scheduled time just wasn't practical this time around, we kinda shoulda seen this coming in retrospect. It would be so much worse for us out of state APs if our preview was cancelled due to lightening and they had no time to shift us because the slots are filled and some people would have done a whole trip for nothing. This way, nothing is promised.

Maybe. Or maybe this was their compromise since other overlay changes didn't get previews at all. We had a malfunction for Guardians during our preview ride, had to get escorted off the ride, the ride shut down for a period of time. We got another ride, as did all those who were scheduled during our slot. So they CAN accommodate riders during other slots. There's always a risk for a shut down for new rides. It's why they do the previews, period. A test period. Now, that's not to say the chances are higher for an outdoor ride, only pointing out that it's not an unheard of happening.

I live outside Florida and I don't feel that way. I think Disney probably has the data that most those out of state APs do not make special trips for these type of things. I personally made it work for LAND previews but I'm not spending the money for just one ride. In this instance a retheme of a ride. I was more likely to book a trip for a last ride on something like Great Movie Ride.

While many associate Florida passholders with Orlando I will be most do not live local and still buy hotels, food etc when they visit Disney. Disney doesn't want to alienate them as they are probably their biggest AP base. They are just trying something new that works within the park reservation system.

A few weeks before the event the friend posts a general invitation with the caveat that you might be turned away at the door if the venue is at capacity. Do you feel valued? Do you take the time off from work, buy an airline ticket, pay for a hotel, etc and show up hoping to get in? How about if the friend gives you a scheduled time that you can reasonably expect (barring unforeseen circumstances) to enter the event?

I flew down just for the day for GOTG. Literally flew out on the first flight out of Atlanta and a 5pm departure back home. It was so much fun to go to EPCOT just for the day. 10/10 recommend and would have done this for TBA.

I got lucky and had a trip already when Tron had previews so that worked out, but I am absolutely not opposed to special trips just for previews. I think it's a huge benefit of being an AP.

I did special trips for GOTG and Tron. …because I had a confirmed time. Not doing it for Tiana (almost typed Splash ) because no guarantee. I’ll just wait until my September trip.

…if Disney continues to do the AP discount thing in June we might have to do a June trip in the future. We like September because F&W.

I'll be at WDW June 21-23 so I JUST miss the previews but I'm not upset about it. It's just how the dice fall sometimes! And I can't make the D23 event because some friends are getting married at EPCOT at the exact same time as the D23 event. So I'll just get on it in the fall - NBD!

I’m also a out of state AP and I was considering attending but the dates don’t work well for our family to make a cross country trip and it not being a sure thing made us less willing to move other things around. Having said that, I suspect the VQ will work for most people with MK reservations.

I don’t think Disney has actually known the final
AP preview dates for more than a week or two before the announcement— I would rather Disney have the ability to open rides for all guests ASAP than get locked in dates notice 3+ months in advance... I see this as a combination of random luck and Disney rewarding the APs dedicated enough to get there for a week and try their luck on the VQ. No system is perfectly fair to everyone, but I think it’s actually more fair than the moonlight magic lottery that gives you additional chances the more digital devices you happen to own.

I understand the difficulties some people have with taking time off. I'm just thinking that people who bought Incredipasses usually have a more flexible schedule, otherwise it would be a waste to pay $1200-$1500/year just to go on one trip.

this is me. I go a few times a year, a few 3 or 4 day trips throughout the year. I am leaving today actually with my duaghter! And I am flying down for Tiana as it lined up with my birthday and I have never been for my birthday ever!
