Our family just returned from 4 days in the parks. We haven't been in 2 years. We saw and accomplished everything we wanted to with the help of arriving early,
Genie+ and ILLs. It was hot, but we found shade wherever we could and made sure we took breaks with indoor rides. We had a pretty good time, but our family will likely not return for a few years. It is just too stressful for me being the planner and constantly having to adapt to ride closures, Genie+ times, dining times, exc.
The crowd patterns were a bit all over the place and not from what I remembered (we used to go quite frequently). The lines at MK were strangely very manageable throughout the day and it never felt super packed. AK was pretty relaxing and the kids loved the Wilderness Explorer badges. DHS was frustrating at times with Genie return times, but it worked out. We even got super lucky and were walking by Rise when it re-opened after a closure so we were able to walk right on with no wait. Epcot was the worst. SO MANY PEOPLE. You were only able to get one good Genie+ as by 11am both Frozen and Remy were gone. Multiple rides were down the day we visited (Remy, Frozen, Spaceship Earth, Soarin, Nemo, Figment and Living with the Land were down on and off the day we visited). We got evacuated off of Figment.
It also seemed like the cast members had a lot less leeway on what they could do to help you. Everyone was very pleasant, but the interactions felt scripted. For example, one morning there wasn't a line at Guest Relations and a huge one in the regular ticket lines when we were having ticket issues, but they would not let us go to one of the three open Guest Relations cast members because we did not have a specific issue from their list. We waited in a 15 minute line and not a single guest was helped at the Guest Relations window during this time. When we were evacuated off Figment in the evening we were offered a recovery Fastpass, but Figment is a second tier ride and all of those second tiered rides except for Turtle Talk were down along with Figment so it was a waste. Cast members were apologetic, but they couldn't offer us one to an open ride--like Soarin--because their IPads wouldn't let them as it was a first tier ride. A few other interactions happened like that as well. Again, all the cast members were super nice, but the extra Disney touch I remembered from years ago was no longer there.
Huge shout out to the revamped dining reservations finder on the app though. It was so easy to modify and find same-day reservations to some great sit down places that I wasn't able to get ahead of time as we weren't staying on property. We were able to snag reservations to Space 220, Topolino's breakfast and Beaches & Cream for a party of 6 during our visit!
